Trans Brakes

Any opinions out there about tranny brakes for a ford C6. Brands, how hard are they to install, other parts you should upgrade, etc.

Thanks....

I don't know exactly how good they are, I have heard of people using them and liking them, but if you go on ebay, and checkout Redneck performance, they makes trans brakes and converters, and they seem to be reasonably priced.

Been a long time since I did a Ford Tom. And I have a weak memory.

But I have not really heard any complaints about any name brand brks.

If you can rebuild a trans you can install a brake.

It is not just a matter of bolting up a valve body.

The Chevy requires some springs to be changed to really stiff ones in a clutch pack. A lot of stuff is removed. All the auto shift stuff. Since it will now be manual shift. Front band is no longer used. An expansion plug goes into the case where the accuator once was. A hole needs to be drilled into the case at the valve body area. Govenor no longer used. Vacuum mod is replaced with the brake solinoid. The spool valve is ground. All is stated in the instructions. Use good clutches and get aftermarket sprags. And the T-350 is a strong trans. Clearances are very important. I have seen many expert built T-350s that you could measure the end play with a yard stick. I like Hughs stuff, certainly the rebuid kit. Has good clutches and parts.

Superdave is my transmission expert. I am sure he can be of more help. If you need someone to do a trans for you, I recommend him.

On a Chev you will be holding in the button to back up. And for what ever reason T-350s and T-400 don't engage as fast as Glides, Fords, and Dodges.

Yeah, Ive been doing some reading online and might attempt the rebuild myself. I've got a couple spare tranny's to use. Been looking at some Art Carr and Coan stuff.

Fritz may still have a big block C-6 with a brake in it. Dan may have one if and when he decides which direction he wants to go in.

Building it your self would be a good experience. And if it don't work you know just who to blame. I was mad at my mechanic all the time.

I had good luck with Coan. Tci and Art Carr neither would get my money.

they all have a good product in my opinion. but there is building tricks, ford c6- the brake uses low@reversre pluss the direct clutch pack. add a frix in the direct clutch, to do this use the bottom apply plate from the foward drum it almost always works, and use a 4x4 drum. if the specs call for 5 to 25 thow, get the clearance in the middle the best you can. there is alot of other things but i cant go on for ever..ok-th350. dont buy the hole drum they offer for the sprag style inter- just put a new roller clutch in the intermediate with a harden race, again stick to the middle of the clearances in all drums, take the waved spring out of the second clutch and add a steel, for forward, find a six cylinder trans and use that piston in a v8 drum so without a waved you can add a frix, direct drum now take out the waved and add a steal..end play in both trannys should be a round 25 to 50 thou..again i could go on for ever but i hate to tipe..THE BIGGEST THING I CAN SAY IS CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, THIS MEANS,TORK AND COOLER..
